Presidential candidates tap AI algorithms for victory in 2024 election
☕News - With the 2024 presidential election looming, AI is actively involved in the race, playing a prominent role within government agencies and the activities of candidates and elected officials.
According to a recent statement by Kevin Pérez-Allen, the chief communications officer for the nonpartisan health-care advocate organization United States of Care, AI is already being used to generate initial drafts for speeches, create campaign marketing materials, and even fundraising emails and texts.
🤓What's the most important point here? Sinclair Schuller, co-founder and managing partner of AI implementation firm Nuvalence, has assisted governments in incorporating AI. According to Schuller there is potential for AI to be used to create deepfake content, both in favor and against candidates, leading to confusion. Thus, he suggested that using AI to label AI-generated content, rather than relying on retrospective fact-checking, could set a positive course forward.
On that note, in a recent event, Pakistan's former Prime Minister Imran Khan campaigned remotely from prison using AI. A four-minute AI-generated audio, accompanied by a photo of Khan was played during an online rally of his PTI party. Here it is noteworthy that a caption appeared at intervals flagging the audio as "AI voice of Imran Khan based on his notes." Not only did this keep the viewers informed but also positioned PTI as the first political party in Pakistan to positively adopt AI in its campaigning efforts.
Generative AI to contribute $1.5 trillion to India’s GDP by 2030, report finds
👨🏻💼News - A recent report by EY India found that Gen AI has the potential to contribute $1.2-1.5 trillion to India's Gross Domestic Product over the next seven years.
✨What were some other highlights?
The report suggests that fully utilizing Gen AI across sectors could add $359-438 billion to India's GDP in FY2029-30, representing a 5.9%-7.2% increase over the baseline.
It predicts 69% of the impact to come from sectors like business services (IT, legal, consulting, etc.), financial services, education, retail, and healthcare; leading to improved productivity, operational efficiency, and personalized customer engagement.
Of the 200 participants, 60% indicated that their organizations acknowledge the significant influence of Gen AI on their businesses. However, 75% expressed a low to moderate level of readiness to leverage the benefits of Gen AI.
🚧Are there any challenges though? According to a report by Automation Anywhere, 63% of Indian enterprises are already investing in Generative AI to drive growth. Despite this, challenges such as skills gaps, unclear use cases, and concerns about data privacy, along with regulatory and ethical considerations, remain significant hurdles.
AI experts Yan LeCun, Andrew Ng weigh in on development, control of superhuman AI
🤖News - With the rapid evolution of AI, the conversation around its management and control has gained attention. The widespread fear of AI overpowering humanity has prompted world leaders and experts, including the Godfathers of AI - Geoffrey Hinton and Yoshua Bengio, to advocate for immediate action.
However, some AI experts have recently shared different views, bringing a fresh perspective to these concerns.
👨💻What did the AI experts say? In a post on X on 17 December, Yann LeCun, the Chief AI Scientist at Meta, argued that the development of superhuman AI will be a gradual process and not a sudden event. He clarified that while the progression will involve machines learning, becoming objective-driven, and eventually surpassing human capabilities; this doesn't imply sentience or consciousness but simply highlights their superior task execution capabilities.
More importantly, he reassured that these advanced systems will remain under human control and not go rogue as has been depicted in several films. This is because they will be limited by the training and guardrails set by humans.
Furthermore, renowned AI educator Andrew Ng suggested that there's an imbalance in focusing on potential future harms, such as AI "taking over," compared to addressing current realized harms. He questioned the emphasis on hypothetical issues based on non-existent technology, emphasizing the need to balance attention between future and existing problems in the field.

🌟Mythbuster
Myth - AI can replace the need for data scientists
Fact - The idea that AI will completely replace data scientists is a myth. While AI and machine learning are automating some tasks traditionally done by data scientists, they cannot replicate the full range of skills and abilities that human data scientists possess. According to a recent study by McKinsey Global Institute, only 8% of data science activities can be fully automated by AI. This means that 92% of data science tasks still require human involvement.
