  • The new feature will allow users to select from five celebrity voices, as well as some generic options.

🤖News - Meta has reportedly landed deals with actors like Judi Dench, Kristen Bell, and John Cena to lend their voices to its Meta AI chatbot.

The new audio feature will let users pick a voice for its ChatGPT-like digital assistant. You’ll be able to choose from five celebrity voices, including Awkwafina and Keegan-Michael Key, as well as some generic options.

The celebrity voices will begin rolling out this week in the U.S. and other English-speaking markets across apps like Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. The company is expected to announce this at its Connect conference starting Wednesday.

😺What's more? Meta is likely to reveal the first version of its augmented-reality glasses at this year's Connect conference. They’re also expected to share their plans for other devices, like the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, which were the first to feature an audio version of the Meta AI chatbot last year.

Key Points

  • Russia has created more AI content than any other nation to influence the upcoming U.S. presidential election.

  • The AI-generated content is part of Russia’s strategy to support Trump and spread negative narratives about Harris.

  • Iran is also using AI to create fake news articles and social media posts, targeting American voters on controversial issues.

☕News - According to a US intelligence official, Russia has produced more AI content to sway the upcoming presidential election than any other foreign country.

During a recent briefing, the official pointed out that this AI-generated content fits into Russia's larger strategy to support Trump and spread negative narratives about Harris and the Democratic Party, often using conspiratorial themes.

When asked how they spread AI-generated content, the official mentioned a July 9 announcement from the Justice Department. This announcement discussed the disruption of an operation linked to Moscow that used AI-enhanced social media accounts to promote pro-Kremlin messages in the US and elsewhere. The official added that Russia has a much better understanding of US elections and knows how to target its efforts more effectively.

🧐What about other countries? The official mentioned that Iranian influence actors have been using AI to create social media posts and write fake news articles for websites that pretend to be real news sources. This content, which is in English and Spanish, targets American voters on hot-button issues like Israel, the Gaza conflict, and the presidential candidates, reaching people across the political spectrum.

On the other hand, China has been using AI-generated content to manage its image globally, but not specifically to influence the outcome of the US election, according to the official.
