Big tech backs federal move to block state AI laws

♨️News – A federal proposal to block states from regulating AI for the next decade is gaining traction in Washington. Senator Ted Cruz is pushing to include it in a major GOP budget bill ahead of a key vote this week, despite pushback from both sides of the aisle.
👨💻Fast facts –
The provision would stop states from enforcing any AI-related laws until 2035.
Supporters like Sam Altman and Marc Andreessen say it would prevent conflicting rules that could slow innovation.
Critics, including Dario Amodei and several advocacy groups, say it would remove vital protections and reduce accountability.
State-level laws already passed in California and Tennessee could be nullified.
Cruz revised the proposal to tie compliance to new broadband funding, but the wording could also impact existing funds.
🤓OpenTools POV – This proposal could shift regulatory power away from states just as they are starting to act. It raises real questions about who gets to shape the guardrails for AI in the US.

Step 1:
Install Scribe and start doing the task - onboarding, reporting, anything repeatable.
It silently captures every click and screenshot while you work. No writing. No formatting.
Step 2:
Let Scribe auto-generate your step-by-step guide—then edit, polish, or share in seconds.

Reddit balances AI expansion with a push to protect authenticity

☕News – As Reddit marks its 20th anniversary, the platform is doubling down on AI. It’s rolling out features like Reddit Answers to help users find information more easily by summarizing discussions from its communities, while still highlighting the original human input that built its reputation.
👨💻Fast facts –
Reddit Answers uses AI to generate summaries of posts, with clear links to the original content.
The company is using large language models for moderation and safety, while also working to keep AI-generated spam off the platform.
Reddit has signed licensing deals with Google and OpenAI, but recently sued Anthropic for allegedly using its data without permission.
Past changes that led to app shutdowns and protests were partly aimed at making AI firms pay for Reddit’s data.
Reddit is also testing its own AI-powered search tools to stay competitive with platforms like Google and OpenAI.
🤓OpenTools POV – Reddit wants to stay useful in an AI-first internet without losing what made it valuable in the first place. Its real test will be keeping trust intact while playing both sides of the AI equation.
