👩‍🍳What’s cooking in the newsroom?

US military plans on developing vast number of AI tools to counter China

🧝🏼‍♂️News - The US Department of Defense (DoD) is exploring the possibility of developing a large-scale network of AI-powered technology, drones, and autonomous systems to counter threats from China within the next two years.

The DoD is concerned about China's rapid military modernization, which includes the development of AI-powered weapons and systems. The US military believes that it needs to develop its own AI capabilities in order to stay ahead of China.

AI-powered systems can make decisions faster and more accurately than humans, and they can operate in environments that are too dangerous for humans. This could give the US military a significant advantage over its adversaries.

🧙🏼‍♀️Do we have more information? As of now, not much has been revealed by the government. However, Kathleen Hicks, the Deputy Secretary of Defense, will deliver a speech on Wednesday outlining some of the air, land, and sea capabilities that the Pentagon is looking to develop.

Well, the US Department of Defense established a new task force last month to focus on generative artificial intelligence. The task force, called Task Force Lima, has been assessing, coordinating, and exploring ways to deploy generative AI capabilities across the DoD.

South Korea allocates over $900M budget for AI development in 2024

👩🏼‍🏫News - The South Korean government announced on Wednesday that it plans to invest over 1.2 trillion won ($900 million) in artificial intelligence development in 2024.

The investment is part of the government's efforts to make digital technology a part of everyone's life and to position South Korea as a global leader in AI.

🕵🏼Where will $900M be used? The government will use its investment to support the development of AI technologies and services across a range of sectors, such as healthcare, manufacturing, and transportation. It also plans to revise relevant regulations, including copyright laws, to remove barriers to innovation.

The planned investment is 20% higher than the budget allocated for AI development in 2023.

In addition to directly investing in AI development, the government also plans to expand the budget for the fund of funds (FoF) supporting venture capital and startups to 1 trillion won ($700 million).

The new investment is also expected to help the country create new jobs and businesses.

Research suggests 90% of Australian workers are using AI tools in daily tasks

👨🏼‍🎓News - A new YouGov (a global public opinion and data company) research has found that 90% of Australian workers are already using artificial intelligence tools in their daily work tasks, with 68% using generative AI tools.

The study also found that 82% of Australian workers who are using generative AI say it makes them much more productive in the workplace.

🧑🏼‍🏫What’s more? The study highlighted that the use of AI tools in the workplace was not without risks. Only a small percentage of respondents (17%) had received comprehensive training on how to use the technology safely from their employer, and 24% of workers admitted to having used a generative AI platform that their employer had banned.

Despite the risks associated with AI, Australian workers are eager to learn more about it and how to use it safely and ethically. Nearly half of them (48%) believe that mastering generative AI at work will help them advance or get promoted in their current organization.

The study's findings highlight the need for organizations to provide their employees with comprehensive training on the safe and ethical use of AI tools.
