Key Points
AI scrapers have caused Wikipediaās bandwidth usage to increase by 50 percent since January 2024, straining its infrastructure.
Bots arenāt just targeting popular pages but also obscure articles and key developer tools, consuming massive resources.
Wikipedia is blocking some scrapers and exploring authentication requirements, but itās unclear if this will be enough.
āNews - AI scrapers are putting Wikipedia under serious strain. The Wikimedia Foundation, which runs the online encyclopedia, says bots downloading its content to train AI models have caused bandwidth usage to jump 50 percent since January 2024. The increase is forcing Wikipedia to expand its capacity, driving up data center costs and threatening the siteās long-term sustainability.
š¤Whatās more interesting - Wikipediaās servers are built to handle sudden traffic spikes when major events happen, but the nonprofit says this wave of bot activity is different. Itās not just high-profile pages being scraped. A closer look showed that 65 percent of resource-heavy traffic comes from scrapers targeting obscure articles and even key developer tools like its code review platform and bug tracker.
šØāš§How are they solving it? In response, Wikipedia has started rate-limiting and even banning certain AI crawlers. But the foundation admits this is just a short-term fix. It is now working on a āResponsible Use of Infrastructureā plan that could require bot operators to authenticate before pulling large amounts of data.
šµāš«Why the solution could be a problem - Whether this will work is unclear. When Reddit faced a similar problem in 2023, it took more drastic steps by charging for API access, which led to a major backlash. Wikipediaās commitment to open knowledge makes that kind of move difficult. But if AI companies keep scraping at this pace, it may not have a choice.

Key Points
Premiere Proās new search tool finds footage instantly, while Generative Extend smooths transitions without awkward cuts or reshoots.
The update brings auto-caption translation in 27 languages and a smarter color pipeline for seamless video adjustments.
āØNews - Adobe is rolling out version 25.2 of Premiere Pro, bringing a wave of AI-powered tools designed to speed up and enhance video editing. The update, launching today, moves several features out of beta and into general availability, including tools for locating, translating, and extending video footage.
š¤©Features youāll love - One of the most talked-about features is Generative Extend, which lets users add up to two extra seconds to a clip. This can make transitions smoother or fix moments where a shot cuts off too soon, all without needing a reshoot. The tool now works in 4K and can also extend background audio by up to ten seconds. It wonāt generate speech or music, but it can help fill in gaps in ambient sound. Adobe says itās free for now but will eventually require Firefly credits.
The update also introduces an AI-driven Search panel that recognizes objects, locations, camera angles, and effects within footage. Editors can now find clips using simple text descriptions like āclose-ups of hands working in a kitchen.ā Premiere Proās new color management system automatically transforms log and raw files to SDR or HDR, making it easier to start editing without lookup tables.
š¤¹āāļøWhat's more? Premiere Pro can now translate captions into 27 languages and display multiple caption tracks at the same time. Adobe has also improved performance across both Mac and Windows, making the editing process smoother.
Alongside Premiere Pro, Adobe is launching After Effects 25.2, featuring HDR monitoring, new 3D animation controls, and a smarter caching system for smoother playback of longer compositions.
