👩🍳What’s cooking in the newsroom?
Saudi Arabia uses AI to tackle climate change and desertification
🧑💻News - The Saudi Ministry of Environment has launched an AI-powered program to combat climate change and desertification. The program, which is in collaboration with the National Center for Vegetation Development and Combating Desertification and the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, will assess the amount of vegetation cover in Saudi Arabia.
🤶How exactly will AI help?
AI can be used to analyze satellite imagery and other data to identify areas that are at risk of desertification. The information can then be used to prioritize these areas for afforestation and other conservation efforts.
The technology can also be used to monitor deforestation by tracking changes in vegetation cover over time. The data can be utilized to identify areas where deforestation is occurring and to track the effectiveness of conservation efforts.
Further, AI can help develop new technologies, such as drones that can plant trees, to combat desertification. .
The AI-powered program is a critical step in Saudi Arabia's efforts to mitigate desertification and achieve sustainability goals.
Snapchat to introduce new generative AI feature called ‘Dreams’
👨🏫News - Snapchat is expanding its use of generative AI with a new feature called "Dreams." The company has already experimented with generative AI in its AI-powered chatbot My AI.
🤶How would the new feature work? Dreams feature will allow users to generate AI-powered images that place them and their friends in imaginative backgrounds and scenarios. The feature is still under development, but it is expected to be released in the near future.
👩🎓What’s the process to use the new feature? To use Dreams, users will need to take a selfie or upload a photo of themselves. The app will then use this photo to generate a new image that places the user in a different setting. The settings can be anything from a fantasy world to a celebrity's house. Users can also choose to add their friends to the image.
Snapchat believes that Dreams has the potential to be a popular feature. It could be used by users to create fun and memorable images, or to share their dreams with friends. The company is also considering ways to monetize the feature in the future.
AI can help detect Parkinson's disease in advance, scientists say
👨🏫News - A new study suggests that eye scans powered by artificial intelligence could detect Parkinson's disease years before symptoms appear.
The study was conducted by researchers from London's Moorfields Eye Hospital and the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology.
👩🚒What was the research process like? The researchers used AI to analyze data from a 3D scan of the retina. They found that people with Parkinson's had a thinner ganglion cell-inner plexiform layer and inner nuclear layer in the eye than people without the condition. These layers are important for vision, and their thinning may be a sign of early Parkinson's disease.
Well, the researchers also found that the AI was able to detect these changes seven years, on average, before the people developed symptoms.
💁What’s the conclusion then? This suggests that eye scans could be used as a pre-screening tool for Parkinson's disease. If people could be identified as being at risk of developing the disease early, they could be offered treatment to slow the progression of the disease and improve their quality of life. The study is still in its early stages, but it is a promising development.

🎬AI-based movies
RoboCop (1987) - It is a science fiction action film set in a dystopian crime-ridden city. The film explores complex themes such as the ethics of human augmentation as well as the emotional and psychological struggles that arise when a human mind is fused with machine capabilities.
S1m0ne (2002) - It is a Sci-fi drama film directed by Andrew Niccol and stars Al Pacino and Rachel Roberts as the lead characters, Viktor and Simone. It is a comedic and thought-provoking film that delves into AI's potential to create realistic human simulations, while shedding light on the consequences of such manipulation.
Surrogates (2009) - A science fiction action film set in a futuristic world where humans reside within the confines of their homes, while robotic surrogates handle their daily tasks. The film raises questions about the consequences of such a reliance on AI.

🎳Prompt engineering tips
Define perspective - When crafting prompts for any chatbot, consider framing your questions from various perspectives. Ask question from the view of a child, an expert, a historian, or someone from a different culture. This approach can lead to a diverse range of unique responses. So instead of saying "Explain the process of photosynthesis," you can say "Imagine you're explaining photosynthesis to a 10-year-old."
Avoid absolutes - Steer clear of using absolute terms like "best" or "worst." For instance, rather than asking, "What is the best way to improve productivity?" you might phrase it as, "What are some strategies that can contribute to enhanced productivity?" By avoiding absolutes, you prompt the model to offer a well-rounded response that considers multiple aspects of the topic.
Test for biases - Be mindful of potential biases in the model's responses. If you come across any indications of biased or inappropriate outputs, consider modifying your prompts to prevent the recurrence of biased content.
