AI could make biological weapons easier to create, lawmakers warn

🕵🏼‍♂️News - On Tuesday, senators from both parties expressed concerns about the potential for artificial intelligence to be used to create biological weapons.

In a hearing before a subcommittee of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Dario Amodei, chief executive of the AI company Anthropic, warned lawmakers that AI could enable unskilled bad actors to develop biological weapons.

As per him, some of the knowledge needed to produce biological weapons is not publicly available and requires specialized expertise. However, AI tools can now fill in some of those gaps.

  • He cited the warnings of experts who have said that AI could be used to create weapons that could lead to human extinction.

👨🏼‍🎨News - Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said on Tuesday that his company was the top provider of cloud-based AI services.

Nadella revealed that Microsoft's Azure AI services were growing quickly and that he expects the company to win more market share in the near future.

OpenAI, Microsoft, Google, and Anthropic have announced the Frontier Model Forum, a new industry body that will develop technical evaluations and benchmarks, and promote best practices and standards for the development and use of advanced AI models.
