Major brands unknowingly fund unreliable AI-generated news websites

🖨️News - A new report from NewsGuard has found that major global brands are unknowingly funding the growth of unreliable AI-generated news and information websites (UAINs).

The report found that global brands are unintentionally funneling programmatic advertising dollars to UAINs. This means that these brands are paying for their ads to be placed on websites that are often filled with low-quality content and misinformation.

😦So what’s the issue?

  • It can legitimize the sites - When big brands advertise on AI-generated news sites, it can give these sites the appearance of legitimacy. This can make it more difficult for users to distinguish between real news and fake news.

  • It can help to spread misinformation - AI-generated news sites are often filled with disinformation. Now, when big brands advertise on these sites, it can help to spread this misinformation to a wider audience.

  • Can damage the brand's reputation - If a brand is found to be advertising on an AI-generated news site that is spreading fake news, it can damage the brand's reputation.

As per the study, Google Ads is a big player in the spread of misinformation. This is because it served more than 90% of the ads that NewsGuard identified on unreliable AI-generated news websites.

Marc Andreessen believes AI will make people even more valuable

☕News - Andreessen Horowitz co-founder Marc Andreessen believes that AI tools will make people more productive and valuable.

On the Lex Fridman Podcast, Andreessen said that young people who want to stand out in the AI world should use the new tools that are available to create new things and make a difference.

🎃Why does Marc think differently? Andreessen opined that we now have access to vast amounts of information and AI tools that allow us to learn and produce more than ever before. This could lead to the emergence of "hyper-productive" people who can create more books, songs, and other works of art than was possible in the past.

😐But why we aren’t already seeing many more such individuals? Andreessen said that one of the biggest challenges we face today is distraction. With so much information and entertainment at our fingertips, it can be easy to get caught up in consuming content and forget about creating our own.

As per him, Artificial Intelligence won’t destroy humanity but rather make the world profoundly better.
